The Sierra High Velocity Varminter .224 inch 60 Grain Hollow Point bullet (brand part no. 1375, introduced in 1984) is a rifle projectile from Sierra, sold 100 to a box, designed to deliver precision accuracy with the explosive expansion of Sierra’s Varminter-style construction. It performs best fired from larger-capacity cartridges such as .22-250 Remington or .220 Swift, in barrels with a 1-in-14 inch twist rate for excellent long-range accuracy, though 1-in-12 or faster works well for medium-capacity cases like .223 Remington. While the hollow point construction also functions in handguns, Sierra does not recommend it there for hunting; it has instead proven itself on half-size NRA Silhouette targets.
