The Faxon 16-inch heavy fluted .223 Wylde barrel is a Match Series AR-15 barrel from Faxon Firearms (Faxon part no. 15BW8M16FHQ-5R-NP3), built for stability and heat management over long strings of fire. Deep flutes on the heavy profile shave weight and add surface area for cooling while keeping the barrel stiff. Faxon machines it from 416R stainless, button rifles it with 5R rifling and a 1:8 twist, and nitrides the bore and exterior. The .223 Wylde chamber shoots .223 Remington accurately and safely accepts 5.56 NATO. It suits a precision carbine or a range rifle that sees a lot of rounds.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why choose the heavy fluted profile over a pencil barrel? The heavy fluted profile adds stiffness for consistent groups and more surface area for cooling, while trimming weight compared to a straight heavy barrel.

What gas block size does it take? It takes a .750-inch gas block on a 1.1-inch journal, with a mid-length gas system.

Is a stainless barrel really nitride treated? Yes. Faxon salt bath nitrides its 416R stainless Match barrels inside and out to extend life and resist corrosion.
