The Faxon Match Series 18-inch .223 Wylde Fluted Barrel (brand part no. 15BW8R18FHQ-5R-NP3) is machined in-house from gun-barrel-quality 416-R bar stock and cut with Faxon’s 5R rifling, a hybrid pattern that reduces bullet jacket deformation for better velocity retention and easier cleaning. Faxon chambers the Match Series in .223 Wylde, a hybrid chamber built to take full advantage of the 5R rifling for tighter accuracy while still safely firing 5.56 NATO ammunition. Every barrel is individually magnetic-particle inspected, then Nitride treated inside and out to lock in the bore and extend barrel life. The extra 18-inch length and fluted profile suit a precision or long-range oriented build that wants a longer sight radius and reduced weight.

Key Specifications

• Machined from 416-R stainless steel bar stock.
• Cut with Faxon’s 5R rifling, reducing bullet jacket deformation for better velocity and easier cleaning.
• Chambered in .223 Wylde to pair with the 5R rifling for improved accuracy.
• Individually magnetic-particle inspected (MPI) before shipping.
• Nitride treated inside and out for corrosion resistance and longer barrel life.
• Extension is coated in Nickel Teflon for dry lubricity and corrosion resistance.
• Nickel Teflon coating tightens the fit between the extension and the upper receiver.
• Overall length of 18 inches for extended range performance.
• 1:8 twist rate stabilizes a wide range of .223/5.56 bullet weights.
• Fluted profile cuts weight without sacrificing rigidity.

Frequently Asked Questions

What chamber does this barrel use? A .223 Wylde hybrid chamber, matched to the 5R rifling for improved accuracy while remaining safe with 5.56 NATO ammunition.

Why choose 18 inches over 16? The extra length gives a longer sight radius and typically a small velocity gain, useful for precision or longer-range shooting.

What does fluting do for the barrel? It removes material to cut weight while leaving enough mass around the bore for rigidity.
