The Faxon Firearms Gunner Match Series AR15 Barrel, .223 Wylde, 16 Inch, Salt Bath Nitride 416R Stainless (Faxon part number 15BW8M16NGQ-5R-NP3) blends two of the best-performing barrel profiles of all time, combining the durability of the Government profile with the weight savings and maneuverability of the Pencil profile. That Gunner profile brings the balance of the rifle back toward the shooter’s body, limiting fatigue during long days of shooting, training, or hunting. Faxon’s Match Series takes that performance up a notch, manufactured in-house from gun-barrel-quality bar stock in 416R stainless steel with 5R rifling, a hybrid rifling style with lands opposite grooves and reduced sharp angles that cuts jacket deformation, increases velocity, and eases cleaning. Chambered in .223 Wylde, a hybrid chamber that takes full advantage of that 5R rifling, the barrel benefits from less bullet jump for better accuracy and is individually MPI tested for safety. After testing, barrels are nitride treated inside and out to lock in the bore, improve barrel life, and keep the elements at bay, while the extension is coated in nickel Teflon for dry lubricity, corrosion resistance, and a tighter fit with the receiver.
