Sierra MatchKing 197-Grain 7mm/.284 HPBT Rifle Bullets (Sierra part no. 1997C) extend Sierra’s legendary MatchKing line to a heavier 7mm option for shooters chasing long-range accuracy. The bullet uses a sleek elongated ogive and a meplat-reducing pointing process that raises the ballistic coefficient for better wind resistance and velocity retention downrange. A precisely machined bearing-surface-to-ogive junction, cut at the same 1.5-degree angle common to match-rifle chamber throats, keeps the bullet aligned with the bore for exceptional shot-to-shot consistency. Sold in a bulk 500-count box, it’s built for handloaders who want the heavier end of the 7mm MatchKing weight range for extended-range work.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the 197-grain MatchKing good for hunting? No, Sierra doesn’t recommend MatchKing bullets for most hunting applications; they’re built for target accuracy.

What twist rate do I need? A barrel twist rate of 1-in-7.5 or faster is required to stabilize this heavier 7mm bullet.

Why choose the 197-grain over a lighter 7mm MatchKing? The added weight carries velocity and resists wind drift better at extended ranges, provided your barrel’s twist rate can stabilize it.
