The Hornady XTP .451-Diameter 45-Caliber 230-Grain handgun bullet (brand part no. 45160) is a jacketed hollow-point built for hunting, self-defense, and law enforcement handgun applications alike. Precise serrations divide the jacket into symmetrical sections that strategically weaken it, initiating controlled expansion reliably even at reduced handgun velocities rather than requiring maximum-pressure loads to open up. Total uniformity in core density keeps expansion balanced and preserves in-flight stability, while jacket thickness varies down the length of the bullet, an advantage over plated bullets with a single uniform jacket thickness. On revolver-cartridge builds, the cannelure is applied before final forming to lock in accurate, consistent crimps without distorting the bullet.
