Description

The Freedom Ordnance FM-9D 9mm upper is a complete belt-fed, semi-automatic upper with an 8-inch barrel and an M-LOK handguard in black (Freedom Ordnance part no. FM9DUM-BLK). It feeds from a belt or from Glock-type magazines, and Freedom Ordnance built in a belt bag and belt feed attachment with magazine feed assist so the switch between the two is part of the design. A one-handed bolt charging and hold open assist device and last-round bolt hold open with Glock-type magazines make it run like a conventional pistol-caliber upper when the belt is off. Critical components are heat-treated 4140 chromoly and S7 tool steels with nitride and hard chrome finishes. It is a range gun first, built for shooters who want sustained belt-fed 9mm fire on an AR-type lower.

Key Specifications

  • Chambering is 9mm (9×19), an inexpensive and widely available cartridge for long range sessions.
  • Barrel length is 8 inches, keeping the upper compact on an AR-type lower.
  • The handguard is M-LOK, with slots for lights, grips and other accessories.
  • The finish is black across the upper.
  • Feed is belt or Glock-type magazine, so one upper runs both ways.
  • A belt bag and belt feed device attachment with magazine feed assist carries the belt and supports feeding into the action.
  • A one-handed bolt charging and hold open assist device lets the shooter charge and lock the bolt with one hand.
  • It provides last-round bolt hold open with Glock-type magazines, signalling an empty magazine.
  • It feeds most 9×19 FMJ and hollow point ammunition from 115 to 147 grains, the common range of 9mm bullet weights.
  • Critical parts are heat-treated 4140 chromoly and S7 tool steel with nitride and hard chrome finishes, built to hold up to belt-fed round counts.
