Berger VLD Target Long Range Bullets in .22 Caliber, 70 grains (Berger part no. 22418) are built around a long secant ogive that cuts aerodynamic drag more than a standard boat-tail profile, so the bullet shoots flatter, drifts less in the wind, and holds velocity better at distance than most other .22 caliber options. Berger constructs the VLD with the same J4 Precision bullet jackets used across its match line, favored by custom bullet makers for tight, repeatable tolerances. Long-range competitors and precision handloaders load this bullet when they need every extra yard of flat trajectory they can get.

Key Specifications

• Chambered for .22 Caliber. matching the bullet diameter to this specific rifle cartridge.
• 70 grain weight. gives handloaders the figure needed to work up a long-range load.
• Long secant ogive profile. cuts aerodynamic drag more than a standard boat-tail for flatter, less wind-affected flight.
• VLD (Very Low Drag) Target design. targets the highest attainable ballistic coefficient in this caliber and weight.
• J4 Precision bullet jackets. give the tight, repeatable tolerances favored by custom bullet makers.
• Built for competitive long-range target shooting. not as a hunting expanding bullet.
• Holds velocity better at distance than most other .22 caliber options. a direct result of the low-drag secant ogive profile.
• Drifts less in the wind than a standard boat-tail bullet of similar weight. the practical benefit of the VLD’s low-drag profile at distance.
• Packaged 100 per box. enough for handloaders to develop and confirm a long-range load.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does VLD mean on this bullet? VLD stands for Very Low Drag. The long secant ogive profile is designed to cut aerodynamic drag for a flatter trajectory and higher ballistic coefficient than a standard boat-tail bullet.

Is this bullet meant for hunting or target shooting? It is built as a Target Long Range bullet for competitive and precision long-range shooting, not as a hunting expanding bullet.

Berger Bullets builds the VLD’s J4 Precision jackets to the same tight, repeatable tolerances used across its match line. Browse more of our reloading bullets for other Berger match bullets.
