The Frontiersman bear bell with a hook-and-loop strap (Sabre part no. BB-01-BL) makes noise as you walk so that nearby bears know you are there. Bears generally want to avoid people, and many close encounters happen because the bear did not hear a hiker until too late. The strap lets you clip the bell to a pack, belt, shoe or other gear, and a magnetic silencer quiets it when you do not want the sound. It is a light, simple addition to a hiking or camping kit.
