The Sabre Frontiersman Bear Horn with an on/off locking top (brand part no. FLH01) is a pocket-size noise maker for hikers who want bears to know they are coming. A push-button horn sounds loud enough to be heard up to half a mile away, which gives wildlife time to move off before a close encounter. The locking top keeps the horn quiet while it rides in a pack or pocket. Sabre builds it for the trail, the campsite and the backcountry trip. It is a warning device rather than a defensive tool, so it works best alongside the rest of your bear-country kit.

Key Specifications

• Audible range is up to 0.5 miles (805 meters), long enough to alert bears well before you reach them.
• Burst capacity is 60 quarter-second bursts, enough for repeated use across many trips and seasons.
• Activation is push-button, so there is nothing to fumble with when you need to make noise quickly.
• The on/off locking top keeps the horn from sounding by accident inside a bag or pocket.
• The body is compact enough for a pocket, pack or gear bag, so it stays within reach on the trail.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will this stop a charging bear? No. Sabre states it is not designed to stop a charging or attacking bear. It is meant to alert nearby bears to your presence so an encounter is less likely to happen.

How do I keep it from going off in my pack? Leave the locking top in the off position. The on/off feature stops the horn from sounding until you switch it on.

How many times can I use it? It delivers up to 60 quarter-second bursts, so one horn covers many outings.
