The Proof Research Q Fix Pre-Fit Barrel in .308 Win is a 20-inch carbon fiber barrel that arrives chambered, so it is a finished pre-fit barrel and not a blank (Proof Research part no. 114520). Proof wraps the barrel in aerospace-grade carbon fiber impregnated with a proprietary matrix resin, and the company says its carbon fiber barrels run up to 64 percent lighter than steel barrels of similar contour. This one is rifled with a 1:10 twist and threaded 5/8-24 at the muzzle for a brake or suppressor mount. The barrel extension is included for installation, which keeps the swap straightforward for a precision or hunting rifle.

Key Specifications

• The chambering is .308 Win, cut at the factory so the barrel is ready to install and not a blank that needs chambering.
• Barrel length is 20 inches, a length that balances velocity with a handy rifle for field and range use.
• The twist rate is 1:10, a common pace for stabilizing a wide range of .308 bullet weights.
• The muzzle is threaded 5/8-24, the standard pattern for most .30-caliber muzzle brakes and suppressor mounts.
• Weight is 2 pounds 6 ounces, light for a 20-inch barrel because of the carbon fiber wrap.
• Construction is a carbon fiber wrapped barrel, which Proof says improves heat dissipation and keeps the barrel cooler over a long string of shots.
• The package includes the barrel extension, so the installation hardware that ties the barrel to the action is covered.
