The Proof Research PXT barrel blank (brand part no. 152010) is an unchambered .284-bore carbon fiber bolt-action blank, 22 inches long with a 1:8 PXT twist in Proof’s Sendero contour. It is a blank, not a pre-fit or a drop-in barrel: a gunsmith threads, chambers and fits it to your action and your cartridge. That is the point of buying one, since a .284 bore is the 7mm bore, so a gunsmith can chamber it for 7mm cartridges such as the 7mm PRC, 7mm Rem Mag or .280 Ackley. PXT, or PROOF Exponential Twist, reduces the rifling lead angle and smooths how the bullet engages the bore, which Proof says reduces wear, improves consistency and cuts felt torque. Proof wraps it in aerospace-grade carbon fiber, which it rates up to 64 percent lighter than a steel barrel of similar contour, with improved heat dissipation for cooler, longer-lasting barrels.
