Hornady Precision Hunter 7mm PRC 175gr ELD-X ammunition comes as a box of 20 rounds (Hornady part no. 80712). Each round carries Hornady’s 175-grain ELD-X bullet, and the maker says its Heat Shield tip holds its shape to maintain a high ballistic coefficient over the whole trajectory. From a 24-inch test barrel Hornady lists 3,000 fps and 3,497 ft-lb of energy at the muzzle, and 2,347 fps with 2,141 ft-lb still on tap at 500 yards. The Precision Hunter line pairs match-accurate hunting bullets with propellants loaded for uniform capacity, so results stay consistent across temperatures.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many rounds come in the box? The box holds 20 rounds of 7mm PRC 175-grain ELD-X ammunition, which is what this listing delivers.

What bullet does this 7mm PRC load use? It uses a 175-grain ELD-X bullet with a Heat Shield tip and AMP jackets. Hornady pairs a streamlined secant ogive with an optimum boattail design for aerodynamic efficiency.

How does the 175gr ELD-X expand at close and long range? At high-velocity impacts from 0 to 400 yards the bullet expands continually through its penetration path, and Hornady says the thick jacket shank and high InterLock ring keep 50 to 60 percent of its weight. At low-velocity impacts past 400 yards the Heat Shield tip drives backward to start expansion, with 85 to 90 percent of weight retained.
