ATOMIC‘s Subsonic ammunition in 7.62x39mm (brand part no. 00474) loads a 220-grain hollow point boat tail at 1,050 feet per second, nearly double the weight of a standard 123-grain 7.62×39 bullet, chosen specifically to hold subsonic velocity in this cartridge. ATOMIC engineers this as a Tactical Cycling Subsonic round, tuned to reliably cycle an AK-platform action even at the reduced pressure a subsonic load produces, rather than short-stroking like many subsonic loads do. At 1,050 fps, the heavy 220-grain bullet still generates 538 ft-lbs of muzzle energy, quiet enough to make a real difference through a suppressor. Made in the USA and loaded in reloadable brass, this rifle ammunition ships in a reusable plastic box built for repeat trips to the range.
Why is 220gr so much heavier than standard 7.62×39 ammo? A heavier bullet is needed to hold subsonic velocity at the reduced pressure a subsonic load runs.
What does Tactical Cycling Subsonic mean? ATOMIC tunes this load to reliably cycle an AK-platform action even at subsonic pressure, where many subsonic loads short-stroke.
What is the muzzle velocity and energy? 1,050 fps and 538 ft-lbs of muzzle energy.
A subsonic round that can’t cycle the gun defeats the purpose, and ATOMIC built this load specifically to solve that problem instead of ignoring it. Order from our Lubbock, Texas gun shop and it ships fast to your door.
