Being someone who lived in a very restrictive state, we are very limited with options on what we can buy. Forget about the firearm selection, even down to a forward assist button, a take down pin or a dust cover. These can be a challenge to buy online and more so get to my front door. After being loyal patrons of some of these shops for years, they’d barely throw a look my way because the new absurd law that kick in. Again, it could be something as mundane a detent or spring that flew off at range im just trying to replace. They wholesale shut the door on us since they just dont want to be hassled. I cant say I blame them; but at the end of the day it was just all about the $$$.
I was looking for a blast mitigation device to help with the concusive force one might get in an indoor range. Legally available in my state but almost always out of stock. When i do find one, its priced ridiculously. I was gonna give up and forget about it after this last attempt. I just happened to end up in Schaefer Defense’s website after chasing link after link. To make the long story short, Jake took the time answer my emails and my questions. Poor guy had to listen to my rants about what we have to go through here for something as small as this. He looked into compliance and it was legal for us to buy, couple
of days later I had it. What he did meant a lot to me. It wasnt an high end expensive firearm nor I was someone important. He did take the time though to listen and understand that not everyone gets to fully exercise their second amendment rights and a lot us are still fighting all this infringements. In my humble opinion, Jake figured it out. You cant just be in the business dealing with firearms, you actually have to be genuinely for the second amendment. You dont disregard someone because this sale might be an inconvenience. Thats the difference between Jake and a random salesman. If i cant find what im looking for in Schaefer Defense, thats the only time ill resort to buying it somewhere else. He got

Was recently in Texas for a wedding and decided I needed to add the official gun of Texas to my collection at home. Purchased a hard to find Colt Walker reproduction cap and ball online from this shop the day before flying home and it shipped within a couple hours the next business day. Responded to email questions within minutes, even on the weekend while closed. Great little Texas shop.

From their own description they’re a small outfit -but they really go the extra mile in providing a great, solid deal. Shipping has been exactly as described and I have be to say they are currently my first and favorite gun & knife source.

At first, I thought the prices were too good to be true, but they’re absolutely the real deal. I’ve ordered two firearms and two optics from them, and everything has been great. This is now the first place I check whenever I’m buying anything. I order from them whenever they have what I need, and their inventory is very extensive.

I have been dealing with Jake for over 2 years now and met him while he was located in Florida. I have purchased many firearms, suppressors and have done numerous builds with him. He’s my “go to” with any questions or purchasing anything firearm related. As a business owner myself, I appreciate that Jake has always been very professional and honest. It’s hard to find people like that anymore.

Firearms are our craft, not just our business. As a licensed manufacturer and dealer in Idalou, we build, service, and transfer guns for shooters across the Lubbock area — and ship to customers nationwide.

Our Services
Whether you’ve purchased a firearm through us or from another dealer, we offer firearm transfer services for individuals in the local area.
Our transfer fee for firearms purchased from outside sources is $25 per firearm, which covers the cost of the background check. However, firearms purchased directly from us are transferred at no charge, including the background check.
A copy of our FFL is available upon request if needed.
From full custom rifle builds to trigger installations, Schaefer Defense offers comprehensive gunsmithing services for the AR platform and most modular handguns. Our labor rates typically start at $20 per half hour ($40 per hour), depending on the complexity of the project.

Laser Engravings (Coming Soon)
Starting in Q4 of 2026, we will offer laser engraving services for firearms and accessories. This service will include engraving magwells, slides, and various other firearm components. Stay tuned for further updates!
Outdoor Gun Range (Coming Soon)
We’re excited to announce the upcoming launch of a private outdoor shooting range in Q3 2027. Designed for a premium experience, the facility will include shaded shooting areas and metal targets placed at varying distances, up to 50 meters initially.
