What is an FFL transfer?
When you buy a firearm from a source that isn’t a local Texas dealer you can walk into — an online retailer, an out-of-state shop, or a private party across state lines — it can’t ship straight to your door. It has to go to a Federal Firearms License (FFL) holder, who verifies your eligibility and logs the transfer. That’s the service we provide: we’re the licensed step between the seller and you.
How it works
- Ship it to us. At checkout, have the firearm shipped to Schaefer Defense and provide the seller with our FFL information. Ask us and we’ll send our license.
- We receive & log it. When your firearm arrives we check it in and let you know it’s ready.
- Come in with your ID. Stop by during store hours, complete the ATF Form 4473, and we run your background check on the spot.
- Take it home. Once you’re approved, it’s yours. Most transfers finish in a single visit.

What to bring

- You must be 21 or older for a handgun and 18 or older for a long gun, per federal law.

How long does a transfer take?
Usually a single visit. Once your firearm is checked in, the 4473 and background check typically take just a few minutes if your check clears without a delay.
Can you receive a firearm before I finish buying it?
Yes — give the seller our FFL information at checkout and let us know it’s coming. We’ll hold it until you can come in.
Do you transfer NFA items like suppressors?
