The Griffin Armament AR-SOB Suppressor Optimized Buffer (Griffin part no. ARSOB) is a spring-loaded, staggered-impact buffer built from 10 individual components with a urethane buffered design. It weighs 4.9 ounces and is made for suppressed rifles, where the faster action of a suppressed gun can overwork a light carbine buffer. Griffin says it increases system dwell time, reduces bolt speed and improves chambering reliability. It replaces M4 carbine series buffers in suppressed 5.56mm rifles, and in 308 carbines it replaces H2 and H3 buffers when used with the AR10 mil-spec CAR receiver extension and AR10 CAR action spring.

Key Specifications

• The buffer weighs 4.9 ounces, a weight Griffin tuned for suppressed carbines.
• It is built from 10 individual components, including a telescoping buffer head and CNC machined weights.
• The weights are brass, which add shock dampening and system dwell time.
• The construction is heat-treated 17-4 stainless steel in a staggered-impact hybrid design with urethane buffering.
• It is AR10 CAR compatible when used with the AR10 CAR receiver extension and action spring, and it replaces M4 carbine buffers in suppressed 5.56mm rifles.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does the AR-SOB do in a suppressed rifle? Griffin says it increases system dwell time, reduces bolt speed and enhances chambering reliability, letting a carbine run similarly to a rifle-length buffer system despite the shorter carbine receiver extension.

What does it replace? In suppressed 5.56mm rifles it replaces the M4 carbine series buffer. In 308 carbines it replaces H2 and H3 buffers when used with the AR10 mil-spec CAR receiver extension and AR10 CAR action spring.
