The Savage Axis XP Compact .400 Legend rifle (brand part no. 33103) is a scoped bolt-action package with a shortened 12.75-inch length of pull, built to fit younger and smaller-framed shooters. It comes with a 3-9x40mm scope factory mounted in medium Weaver-style rings and bore-sighted, so a new hunter can head to the range with the rifle as it ships. The 20-inch button-rifled barrel is threaded 11/16×24 and uses Savage’s thread-in headspacing, and the stock adds enhanced texturing and a contoured grip with ambidextrous palm swells. An enhanced bolt handle stays easy to work with cold or wet hands, and a detachable box magazine keeps loading simple. The straight-wall .400 Legend hits hard at woods ranges, which makes this a sensible first deer and hog rifle.
