The Proof Research Sendero .308 Winchester carbon fiber barrel blank (brand part number 107744) is an 18-inch unchambered barrel built for a gunsmith to fit to a bolt-action rifle. It carries Proof Research’s full-weight Sendero contour, wrapped from aerospace-grade carbon fiber over a 416R stainless steel liner, cutting barrel weight by as much as 64 percent versus a comparable steel barrel. At 18 inches, this blank suits a compact, maneuverable .308 Win build for hunting or a short-action precision rig where a shorter barrel keeps handling quick without giving up meaningful velocity. As with all Proof Research blanks, chambering, threading, and final fit are left to the builder’s gunsmith.

Key Specifications

• Barrel length in the blank measures 18 inches, sized for a compact, quick-handling .308 Win bolt gun.
• Rate of twist is 1:10, the standard stabilizing rate for .308 Winchester bullet weights from 150 to 175 grains.
• Breech length is 2.5 inches, the reference dimension a gunsmith needs for chambering to the buyer’s action.
• Shank diameter holds at 1.20 inches, matching common bolt-action barrel shank tooling.
• Contour is the full-weight Sendero profile, favoring rigidity and heat management over minimum weight.
• Finished weight runs approximately 2 pounds 8 ounces, light for an 18-inch barrel of this contour thanks to the carbon fiber wrap.
• Construction pairs a 416R stainless steel liner with a carbon-fiber outer wrap for faster heat dissipation.
• Weight savings run up to 64 percent lighter than a comparable steel barrel of the same contour and length.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this barrel arrive chambered? No. It ships as a blank for a gunsmith to chamber, thread, and fit to a specific bolt-action receiver in .308 Winchester.

Why choose an 18-inch length over a longer barrel? An 18-inch .308 Win barrel keeps the rifle shorter and easier to maneuver in the field while still delivering solid terminal performance out to normal hunting and precision distances.

Is this barrel lighter than a standard steel barrel? Yes. The carbon-fiber wrap over the steel liner can cut barrel weight by up to 64 percent versus a comparable steel barrel of the same contour and length.
