The Ruger American Pistol Compact in 9mm with a manual safety (brand part no. 8639) is a striker-fired duty-style pistol built with a recoil-reducing barrel cam, a low-mass slide, and a low bore axis for controllable shooting. Ruger performance-tests the pistol for sustained +P ammunition use and equips it with genuine Novak LoMount Carry 3-dot sights. The one-piece, high-performance glass-filled nylon grip frame uses a modular wrap-around grip system with small, medium, and large modules for adjusting palm swell and trigger reach, and an ambidextrous slide stop and magazine release allow actuation with either hand. A pre-tensioned striker system delivers positive ignition without a heavier trigger pull, and a MIL-STD-1913 Picatinny rail accepts lights, lasers, and infrared illuminators. Two nickel-Teflon-plated magazines, a 12-round and a 17-round with grip extension, ship with the pistol. Among duty-style semi-auto handguns, this American Pistol Compact configuration favors shooters who want a manual safety with proven duty-grade ergonomics.
