The Sierra MatchKing Rifle Bullets (Sierra part no. 2231) put a 200-grain hollow-point boat-tail projectile in the hands of shooters chasing extreme long-range accuracy in .30 caliber / 7.62mm. A sleek elongated ogive combined with a final meplat-pointing operation increases the ballistic coefficient for better wind resistance and velocity retention downrange. Sierra machines the bearing surface-to-ogive junction at the same 1.5-degree angle commonly found in match rifle chamber throats, which helps keep the bullet precisely aligned with the bore for record-setting accuracy. Built by Sierra and sold 100 to a box, this loading requires a barrel twist of 1×9 inches or faster and is not recommended for most hunting applications.
