Red Dot Footprints and Adapter Plates: What Fits What

Plate prices in the table below were checked 18 September 2026. The in-stock lists further down come straight from our live inventory and refresh every hour.

Most red-dot questions we get by text are really one question: will this dot bolt onto this slide? The answer has nothing to do with the brand on the box. It is decided by the footprint, the screw spacing and locating-boss pattern milled into your slide or built into the plate that came with the pistol. Match the footprint and the dot goes on in ten minutes. Miss it and you are shopping for an adapter plate, which we also stock. This page lists the six footprints that matter, the pistols cut for each, the plates that bridge the gaps, and what is on our shelf today. Optics and plates ship direct to your door, no FFL, and there is no sales tax outside Texas.

THE SHORT VERSION

  • Your slide’s footprint decides the dot, not the brand. Two footprints cover most pistols: RMR on full-size guns and RMSc (Holosun calls its version K) on slim carry guns.
  • Slim carry pistols (Sig P365 family, Springfield Hellcat, Glock 43X/48 MOS, S&W Shield Plus) are cut direct for RMSc. Full-size “optics ready” pistols (Glock MOS, M&P CORE, Walther PDP, HK VP9, CZ P-10, Canik, FN 509) use a plate system, one plate per footprint.
  • Factory plates are thin aluminum. A steel aftermarket plate that indexes on the slide is worth the $50 on a carry gun.
  • Adapters between footprints exist (RMR cut to an RMSc dot is the common one) but every adapter adds height. Pick the right footprint first; adapt second.

PLATES

Plate System or Direct Cut?

“Optics ready” means two different things. On a slim carry pistol it usually means the slide is milled directly for the RMSc pattern, so a matching dot bolts straight on with the screws in the box. On a full-size pistol it usually means a plate system: the slide has a large pocket with locating posts, and a plate (or a set of them) converts that pocket to a footprint. Glock MOS, S&W M&P 2.0 CORE, Walther PDP, HK VP9 OR, CZ P-10 OR, Canik, FN 509, Beretta APX A1 and 92X RDO, Ruger-57 and Springfield XD-M OSP all work this way.

The factory plates are thin aluminum and they are the part that fails: screws back out, the plate flexes, the zero walks. A steel or hard-anodized aftermarket plate that indexes on the slide’s posts (C&H Precision, Night Fision, Calculated Kinetics, Foxtail) is the fix, and at $20 to $67 it is the cheapest upgrade on a carry gun. One exception worth knowing: the Holosun SCS MOS mounts directly into the Glock MOS pocket with no plate at all, which is why it sits so low.

Two special cases. A Glock that is not MOS has no pocket; the option is a dovetail mount that replaces the rear sight (it works, it sits high). And the new Glock Gen 6 uses Glock’s Optic Ready System: three plates ship in the box (RMR/507C, C-More and DeltaPoint Pro/EFLX), and we stock plates for the footprints it leaves out (RMSc/K, 509T, ACRO).

ADAPTERS

Putting One Footprint’s Dot on Another Footprint’s Cut

The search that brings most people here is “RMR to RMSc adapter”: an RMR-cut slide and a small RMSc or Holosun K dot they already own, or want because it’s slimmer. That adapter exists, Osight’s RMR-to-RMSc/K plate is $19.99, and it works. The reverse, an RMR-footprint dot on an RMSc cut, is a worse idea: the dot overhangs the slim slide and the screws are the small RMSc ones. Cross Armory sells the plate for it, $28; we’d rather sell you a K-footprint dot.

Other bridges we keep: RMR cut to an Aimpoint ACRO or Steiner MPS (C&H steel, $62.27), RMR to DeltaPoint Pro (TruGlo, $39.81), and Holosun’s own 509T plates for the Glock MOS, CZ P-10 and FNX-45 pockets. Every one of them raises the dot. On a carry gun that usually means suppressor-height irons if you want to see them through the window, and it always means a re-zero.

ENCLOSED

Enclosed Emitters, If You Carry It in a Pocket or the Rain

An open reflex sight has the LED emitter exposed behind the glass; lint, rain and a thumbprint over it and the dot is gone. Enclosed emitters seal that in. Two years ago they were all ACRO-priced; now the slim-pistol ones are the same money as a good open dot. In stock today: Holosun EPS Carry (K footprint, $288.56) and full-size EPS (ships with its RMR adapter, $288.56); Osight SE (RMSc, from $199.99) and Osight SE DPP (DeltaPoint Pro footprint, $239.99); C&H EDC Enclosed ($210.54); Meprolight MPO Pro-S (RMSc, $219.48). Steiner’s MPS is on the shelf too, in three versions (8700-MPS, MPS-C and MPS 2.0, from $367.13) — it uses the ACRO footprint, so it is in the ACRO list below. Aimpoint’s own ACRO we order in; text us if you want one.

TWO QUESTIONS WE ANSWER EVERY WEEK

Batteries

Slim-pistol dots (Holosun K series, RomeoZero, most RMSc dots) run a CR1632; RMR-size dots and the DeltaPoint Pro run a CR2032. What matters more than the size is where it loads. A side-loading tray (the Holosun X2 and X3 models, the Osight SE) means a battery change without removing the optic and without a re-zero. A bottom-loading dot (the original Trijicon RMR, the Shield RMSc, the Romeo1Pro) has to come off the slide to change the battery, and then it has to be zeroed again. Change it on a schedule, not when it dies: once a year on a carry gun is cheap insurance, and the shake-awake models stretch it further.

Co-Witness

Iron sights and a dot only line up if the irons are tall enough to clear the dot’s housing. On a direct-cut slim pistol the factory irons often show in the bottom third of the window (“lower-third co-witness”). Add a plate and the dot rises; add an adapter on a plate and it rises again, and the irons disappear below the housing. If seeing your irons through the window matters to you, budget for suppressor-height sights when you buy a plate, or pick a footprint the slide is cut for so no plate is needed.

FAQ

Red Dot Footprint FAQs

Does a Holosun 507K fit a Glock 19 MOS?

Not directly. The 507K is a K/RMSc-footprint dot and the Glock 19 MOS is a plate system sized for full-size footprints. Foxtail makes a $21 plate that puts a 407K, 507K or EPS Carry on a full-size MOS slide, and it works. But on a 19 MOS most people are better served by the 507C, the same reticle on the RMR footprint with a bigger window, on a steel RMR plate.

Do I need a plate?

If your slide is a plate system (Glock MOS, M&P 2.0 CORE, Walther PDP, HK VP9 OR, CZ P-10 OR, Canik, FN 509, Beretta APX and 92X RDO), yes: one plate per footprint, and a steel aftermarket one over the factory aluminum. If your slide is cut direct (Sig P365 family, Springfield Hellcat, Glock 43X/48 MOS, S&W Shield Plus, Sig P320 X-series) and the dot matches the cut, no plate at all.

What footprint is the Glock 43X MOS and 48 MOS?

Shield RMSc. Shield, Osight, ZeroTech, Sig RomeoZero and Viridian dots bolt straight on. The Holosun K series (407K, 507K, EPS Carry) uses the same screw spacing with a different rear boss, which is why C&H, Night Fision and Holosun all sell a $50 plate for the original four-post cut. Glock’s newer MOS-K slides (two posts, “MOSK” on the case label) take the K series directly.

Is the Trijicon RMRcc the same footprint as RMSc?

No. The RMRcc is Trijicon’s own compact footprint. It will not fit an RMSc cut, and RMSc dots will not fit an RMRcc cut, without a plate.

Can I put a red dot on a Glock that isn’t MOS?

Yes. A dovetail mount replaces the rear sight and carries the dot (the Sig Romeo1 mounting kit and Leupold’s DeltaPoint Pro dovetail mount both do this); it works and it sits high.

What is the difference between RMR and RMSc?

Size and screw spacing. RMR is the full-size pattern, roughly an inch wide, used on duty and full-size pistols. RMSc is the compact pattern for single-stack and slim carry slides. Holosun’s “K” is its version of RMSc; Holosun’s “C” models are RMR.

Is there an RMR to RMSc adapter?

Yes. Osight’s RMR-to-RMSc/K plate ($19.99) mounts a slim RMSc or K-footprint dot on an RMR-cut slide. It adds height, so plan on a re-zero and possibly taller irons.
