What is an FFL transfer?

When you buy a firearm from a source that isn’t a local Texas dealer you can walk into — an online retailer, an out-of-state shop, or a private party across state lines — it can’t ship straight to your door. It has to go to a Federal Firearms License (FFL) holder, who verifies your eligibility and logs the transfer. That’s the service we provide: we’re the licensed step between the seller and you.

THE PROCESS

How it works

Ship it to us. At checkout, have the firearm shipped to Schaefer Defense — just ask and we’ll send you our FFL.

We receive & log it. When your firearm arrives we check it in and let you know it’s ready.

Come in with your ID. Stop by during store hours, complete the ATF Form 4473, and we run your background check on the spot.

Take it home. Once you’re approved, it’s yours. Most transfers finish in a single visit.

Firearm transfer questions

How long does a transfer take?

Usually a single visit. Once your firearm is checked in and you arrive at our store, the 4473 and background check typically take just a few minutes if your check clears without a delay.

Can you receive a firearm before I finish buying it?

Yes — give the seller our FFL information at checkout and let us know it’s coming. We’ll hold it until you can come in.

Do you transfer NFA items like suppressors?
